House of Commons

The most important chamber in the palace is the HOUSE OF COMMONS, which is a fine room, 62 ft. long by 45 broad, and 30 high. It is richly and appropriately decorated, and contains eight rows of seats, the Speaker's chair being at the north end.

Adjoining the House of Commons, with access on either side of the chair, are the spacious lobbies into which the members retire on divisions being taken.

The members enter the right or left hand lobbies, as they approve or not of the question under discussion, and they are counted and their names taken down as they return to their places.
