At the turn of the 20th Century, London was at the height of its influence as the capital of the largest empire in history, the British Empire, but as the new century dawned it was to present many challenges to this fine City. With a population of 6.48m in 1900, London was the largest city in the world and was only overtaken by New York in 1925.
