Jean-Luc Figueras
About Jean-Luc Figueras
All critics place Jean-Luc Figueras’ eponymous restaurant right at the top of Barcelona’s best restaurants, it therefore should be highly placed on a list of the world’s best. Jean-Luc Figueras is an exquisite restaurant, set in the 1850’s townhouse that was once the atelier of Balenciaga and decorated in restrained traditional style. Service is impeccable. This is special occasion dining, with multiple amuse-bouches, each with its own change of cutlery. The cuisine is a superb example of what Barcelona calls Author Cuisine, with the chef’s personality indelibly stamped on each dish. References are French and Catalan. The finest seasonal ingredients are employed. Menus change frequently, but some of Figueras’s own creations include prawn and ginger-flecked pasta in mango and mustard sauce, and seabass with cod and blood sausage. A 20-course tasting menu is available. Desserts are lauded, and the cellar is a match for the food in every way.
