The City gains a glamorous new eaterie and hails the return of chef Tom Ilic (formerly of Bonds at the Threadneedle Hotel), which makes Addendum a restaurant of note. Set in the so smart Apex Hotel, Addendum the restaurant is a dark and moody space with mushroom-coloured banquettes, leather chairs, walnut floors, and clever use of mirrors and amber lighting. This is fine dining featuring Ilic’s own intensely-flavoured not-for-the-fainthearted cooking as well as inventive modern European cuisine. The menu changes regularly, and includes dishes like braised pig’s cheek and chorizo with garlic and parsley mash, and roast saddle of lamb with spiced aubergine cannelloni and sauteed sweetbreads. The large, thoughtful wine list covers the world. However, there is another side of Addendum, a light, airy brasserie with double-height glass doors overlooking Seething Lane Gardens. Ilic oversees a lighter, fresher menu here, with dishes like grilled lobster with warm potato salad and shellfish butter. Addendum, a restaurant for every mood.
