Sumosan

About Sumosan

A big-hitter among the newer generation of stylish Japanese restaurants, Sumosan has decor that delights the eye, a kind of Western influenced modern Orientalia. Okay, we mean neutrally-coloured modern sleekness with lots of natural wood on display and charming details like the Venetian glass fishies that swim across the window. Upstairs is the main restaurant, where, if you have time and appetite, we recommend the Itadakimase, or chef’s set menu with jillions of courses. It includes dishes like tataki salad of seared salmon, tuna and yellowtail, and tempura udon, as well as spring-fresh sushi. Probably best to have a friend to share it with. Sumosan also do their own version of Nobu’s black cod with miso. If you can’t manage all that, you might want to head down the walnut staircase and nibble and slurp your way through rather fabulous drinks (try the Sumosan punch), sushi, and Japanese tapas.
