"Humbling"A review of Edmonton Cemetery by Lynda Brown - Friday 2nd of October 2009Advertisements
My father has just passed away and going through his effects I came across a immemorial card stating where my grandmother was buried in Edmonton Cemetery she died before I was born I never knew her. I wanted to visit the grave but found out it was in fact a communal one with no marker or headstone apparently this was a common practice as at that time she passed away in 1944 money was scarce. Through the kindness of the caretaker Steve I was shown to the exact spot where my grandmother was buried. Looking at that small patch of grass was very humbling and as I placed a single red rose on the spot I felt very privileged to be there. The sun was shining and the cemetery is stunning my grandmother may lack a gravestone but I am glad she is resting in such a beautiful and tranquil place |
