"Do armies need music?"
A review of Nugus Martin Productions Ltd by David Jowett - Friday 26th of February 2010
Having started to watch and listen to "The Battle of The Bulge"(Virgin 203 tonight)I finally switched to something else. The reason? I was fed up to the back teeth of the overpowering use of a fifty-six piece orchestra, plaigerising Holst's "Mars", drowning out the commentary. Switching back to find the producers, I found that you even had the audacity to give a credit to the Musical Director. This seems to follow the American trend that there must not under any circumstances be silence during a programme. A further problem is that you seem to forget that sound travels slower than light, you showed a V-1 detonating about a mile away, yet the detonation was simultaneous.(Delay about five seconds) Surely, with modern gizmos, we should be able to select wether we want to listen to the "musak" or to the commentary.
