"Nice in the Showroom, Crap in the Ordering/Delivery"

The staff were helpful in the showroom, being very hands-off, yet available and straightforward when you need it. The prices are reasonable. Decent selection. And you get those warm fuzzies from using a local provider and not a chain (e.g., Carpet Right).

HOWEVER, the ordering and delivery were another story. It turns out the carpet I had ordered was only the carpet. I had not been charged for padding which was another £200 and labour for installation. I had not been told this until we were settling on a delivery time and the clerk was all, "wait a minute . . . ." That should have been settled when I filled out the order in the office. The clerk also failed to ask how high up the room was (loft bedroom, 5 flights), and how many staircase turns would be required (6).

Two delivery men showed up. When I told them these additional details, they said the two of them wouldn't be able to do it: "It took four of us just to haul this carpet across the showroom, how're we going to make it up even one flight or one turn?" Why two delivery men would suffice to carry a carpet into a home when four were required to schlep it across a showroom puzzles me to this day.

So, they had to reschedule the whole installation for another day--this time with four men. They showed up and installed the carpet. It had a couple of creases which settled in a few weeks, as they had mentioned. No flaws were found in the installation. They even dealt with a some irregularities in the cut very well.

I have an upcoming wood flooring job for which I will definitely not be using J B Carpets..
