"Good food, indifferent service"

A review of Royal China Restaurant by G Y Shin - Sunday 8th of October 2006

This restaurant is one of a chain of Royal China restaurants in London. I have previously visited the Royal China in Bayswater and Baker Street.
Royal China at Westferry Circus has an excellent riverside location. It would be great to eat outside in the summer.
As with the other branches, the dim sum lunch was very good. It was tasty, the portions were good and the prices reasonable.
However, we had a plate of vegetables which cost £9.50. I hope they were organic.
The service charge was also steep, at 13%. I do not mind paying a bit more for exceptionally good service.
Unfortunately, service is not this branch's forte. Service was slow and I think it is fair to say indifferent. The menu and bill were slapped down on the table in a manner of near-contempt.
This branch did not pass the "teapot test" - whether an empty pot of Chinese tea is re-filled and how promptly. Tut, tut.
I will not be returning to the Canary Wharf branch of Royal China in the foreseeable future, although I would frequent the Bayswater and Baker Street branches again.
