Ludgate Hill

City. (EC4) Formerly called Bowyer's Row, and derives its present name from one of the ancient gates of the City, which stood about the middle of the street. King Lud, a British king, who lived, it is supposed, about sixty-six years before the Christian era, gave name to this gate. (Reference: Smith's Streets of London, p. 293)
