Milford Lane

199, Strand. (WC2) Named from a ford over the Thames at the extremity, and a windmill in the Strand, near the site of St. Mary's Church. Some picturesque tenements on the east or Strand end of the lane dated back to 1694, but were taken down in 1852, and the site is now occupied by Milford House, the office of The Illustrated London News.
