City, 2, Eastcheap. (EC3) Here is where the Great Fire of London broke out after twelve o'clock on the night of September 2, 1666. The fire started in the house of a man named Farryner, the King's baker, close to the spot where the Monument now stands. (Reference: Jesse's London, vol. II, p. 297)
