Lombard Street

About Lombard Street

Lombard Street is a street in the City of London which extends from the Mansion House to Gracechurch Street. It has long been principally inhabited by bankers, lenders and financial institutions. If fact until the 1980s most the the UK's big high steet banks had their head office in Lombard Street.

The street takes its name from the Longobards, a rich race of bankers, who settled here in the reign of Edward II.
