Since succeeding the much-loved Thyme, Morel has wasted no time in winning over south west London Francophiles. It’s barely changed to look at, still the same glass frontage ,and simple, modern décor of wooden floors and chairs, and white walls hung with the occasional bright abstract painting. The relaxed young professionals’ buzz remains too. The difference is that the food is even better. Chef-proprietor Jean Chaib (who’s worked for Marco Pierre White at the Criterion) cooks in the Modern French style and his menu reads very well...Seared red mullet on truffle potato and chorizo vinaigrette (starter); roasted lamb with sweet potato sauce, aubergine and pepper confit, rosemary lamb jus; hot chocolate and orange fondant with milk ice cream... Select, well-chosen wine list. Excellent Sunday roasts. Smoking at the bar only.
