"Memories coming from Australia"

A review of Downhills Infant School by Sheila Frost written on Wednesday 5th of January 2011

I have just discovered this site. I was a pupil at Downhills Infant and Junior school, starting school in 1941. I have some class photos of around that era. If I scan them in would it be of any interest to you.

I recall once getting some food from the "Yanks" apparently airlifted. We had to take a saucer to school and each child was given 2 ozs. of cocoa powder to take home. I for on, licked all mine on the way home.

I'd be interested to know of anyone else who would remember this momentous occasion.

My teachers in the Junior school were Miss Lunken, Mr Jacobs, but there my memory fades.

I went onto Downhills Secondary Modern School but between during the junior school years we were evacuated to Heyood Lancashire and lined up to get a bus from the school playground.

Does anyone out there remember all that.

I have been living in Australia for 45 years. My former name was Sheila Frost..
