"Labor Omnia Vincit"

Back in 1956 to 1960 when I attended Stanley tech. as we called it then, there were around 300 boys. I still have the school photo from 1959 in my hallway where I live in Norfolk. All the boys & masters posed seriously for the camera. I guess many of the masters must be around 120 to 130 years old now because they all seemed ancient to me when I attended Stanley.

Since then I have lived in many countries working as an engineer and my school pic has been hanging on the walls of many of those countries stretching from Australia to Switzerland & even in different places on the Arabian peninsula.

I took out Swiss nationality close on 30 years ago although I'm still proud of my British heritage being born in Wales & having had my schooling at Stanley. Our school motto back then was ' Labor omnia vincit' (Work conquers all). I don't know if that's really true and spent much of my free time climbing mountains . I never ever agreed with comments in the press & other publications that wrote about climbers conquering a peak. I stood on the top of many peaks in the Alps & was even on an expedition to Kanchenjunga ( 8,586 m or 28,169 ft in old money) from the Nepalese side. I never ever spoke about conquering a peak but would simply say that I was privileged to have stood on top of some of the most magnificent mountains in the world for a short time. The mountains will still be there long after I'm gone, so who's the conqueror?

Work was a little bit like that where I was privileged to have worked on mountain aerial transport design & later as an engineer for a company that produces the largest range of industrial diesel engines , which gave me an insight into almost every kind of industry that needs power.

I would like to hear from anyone who started at Stanley in 1956 because after leaving Stanley I lost all contact with my classmates.

So, 'Is There Anybody Out There?.
