A year later came Lord Chancellor Hardwicke, a man of great ability, of whom Hervey once said that "no one could make more of a good cause." He lived to make a great name and to leave a permanent mark on the history of the country, and he died in Grosvenor Square on 6th March 1764, having filled so many high offices that the mere enumeration of them would fill a page.
