Here are the quarters appropriate to the Chief Warder, since he is the modern representative of the Yeoman-Porter, the official in immediate charge of the keys of the fortress and the closing of the gates. Access is gained to the first floor by a newel stair at the N.E. corner; the portcullis with the machine for raising and lowering can be seen on the first floor.
